The School of Geography and the Environment at the University of Oxford has recognised international leadership in research in physical and human geography and in the interdisciplinary field of environmental science. The School comprises the Department of Geography, the Environmental Change Institute (ECI) and the Transport Studies Unit (TSU). The School is part of the University’s Division of Life and Environmental Sciences established in October 2000, together with Anthropology, Archaeology, Plant Sciences, Zoology and Biochemistry.
Research is undertaken over a wide spectrum of the discipline and the School has strong research groups within two main clusters: the Environmental Dynamics Research Cluster and the Economy, Environment and Society Research Cluster. Topics covered include biodiversity, climatology, economic geography, geomorphology, historical geography, luminescence, social stability and exclusion, and water.
