Organising young people with wealth or class privilege in Europe – workshop 2/3 July 2018

iamthe1percentEDGE wants to inspire young people with wealth or class privilege in Europe to become transformative leaders for an equitable distribution of wealth, land and power and the common good.
Following positive response to a call for interest some months ago we want now to deepen the exploration of what makes sense in organising young people with wealth or class privilege in Europe.

Please sign up here if you are a young (18-40 year old) person with wealth or class privilege in Europe and want to join us for a two days exploratory workshop on 2 to 3 July at La Bergerie de Villarceaux outside Paris.

We want to be intentional on how we address questions of power, diversity, race, gender and inclusion, and welcome in particular participation from people who experience discrimination on the basis of race, ethnicity; women; people with disabilities; and LGBTQ+ people – you are particularly welcome to come! Please get in touch if you have any questions or requests (e.g. accessibility, translation, child care) so we can organise the workshop in a way that everyone feels welcome and comfortable.

We will meet on Monday, 2 July at 14:30 for collective departure at Paris Gare du Nord train station. The workshop starts at 16:00 and will finish at 15:30 on Tuesday.

The programme is still shaping, but will be build around the following questions:
– Why organise young people with wealth in Europe?
– What can we learn from other experiences (Resource Generation/US and Resource Movement/Canada)?
– How to build racial justice, gender justice and intersectionality into our organisating from the very beginning?
– What could a European network of young people with wealth or class privilege look like? How should it work?
– How to relate to EDGE, progressive philanthropy in general and social movements?

This won’t be a decision making assembly, but a collective exploration in an intimate setting, bringing together young people with wealth or class privilege and a small number of partners and resource persons.

Participants are invited to stay for joint activities with progressive funders from the EDGE Funders Alliance, who meet for their annual European members retreat, until Wednesday morning. If you want to stay for the full EDGE Europe retreat until Thursday, 5 July you have to be an EDGE member or get in touch to discuss if participation makes sense (separate registration here).

If you have any other question or suggestion, get in touch with Tobias Troll (EDGE Europe).
