The Climate Change Adaptation in Africa (CCAA) research and capacity development programme supports African countries in their efforts to adapt to the impacts of climate change.The CCAA is a component of IDRC’s Rural Poverty and Environment (RPE) programme initiative.

The main objectives of CCAA are:

  • to strengthen the capacity of African scientists, organizations, decision makers and others to contribute to adaptation to climate change;
  • to support adaptation by rural and urban people through action research;
  • to generate a better shared understanding of the findings of scientists and research institutes on climate variability and change; and
  • to inform policy processes with good quality science-based knowledge.

The activities carried out focus on three areas:

  • communications and networking
  • education and training
  • participatory action research
