Research Triangle Institute (RTI) is an independent not-for-profit organization that provides research and technical assistance services to government and industry clients in the United States and abroad. With a staff of 1,700, RTI works in the fields of public policy, public health and medicine, environmental protection, and advanced technologies. RTI was established in 1958 as the initial research and development center in Research Triangle Park, N.C.

RTI’s Center for International Development (CID) is dedicated to improving the human condition in developing and emerging countries. CID’s clients include the U.S. Agency for International Development, the World Bank, the Inter-American Bank, the African Development Bank, several UN agencies, and other regional and international organizations. CID’s 100-member staff, based around the world, currently maintain an annual revenue base in excess of $28 million. CID has worked in over 130 countries, and in many local languages, including Arabic, Bahasa Indonesia, French, Polish, Russian, and Spanish.

CID offers a range of policy support, applied research and analysis, and other technical expertise in strategic planning, institutional development, performance management, information systems, and training. Activities emphasize institutional development through the transfer of analytical tools and methods, and focus at the national, sub-national, and local government levels in delivering advisory and training services. CID works primarily through five broad focus areas: Environmental & Natural Resource Management, Population and Health, Policy Support Systems, Urban Finance and Management, and Information and Communications Technology.
