Background
At the EDGE Europe Retreat 2024, a group of participants organized an open space conversation on Impact Measurement. The conversation focused on understanding the challenges of impact measurement practices, which are often seen as extractive, and pressuring regranters and partners to fill non-feasible metrics.
At the same time, in progressive philanthropy we are noticing several examples of participatory approaches to learning and evidence gathering, and intermediaries and partners do see the value of doing different types of Learning & Evaluation (L&E) as a way to inform strategy and funding.
For this reason, we are proposing to launch a community of practices, within the EDGE PODs program, as a space to address the growing challenges and opportunities around how philanthropic organizations measure and understand their impact. Through this POD, we aim to foster a collaborative environment that prioritizes shared learning, innovative approaches, and progressive practices in philanthropy related to L&E, topics could include developing participatory and trust-based methodologies, showcasing global examples of progressive L&E practices, and co-creating guidelines to support equitable donor-partner relationships.
Who could join this POD?
We hope to involve EDGE members based globally and belonging to different types of organizations, and emphasize the value of community-building and collective knowledge-sharing.
