Tebtebba is a research, education, policy advocacy and resource center working with indigenous peoples at all levels and arenas. The centre seeks the recognition, promotion and protection of indigenous peoples’ rights and aspirations while building unities to uphold social and environmental justice and sustainability. Tebtebba conducts research on the following issues:
- indigenous peoples and sustainable development
- conflict transformation, peace building and governance
- the impact of globalization on indigenous peoples
- women/gender and development
- indigenous peoples’ economic, political and cultural systems
The centre has a gender unit which undertakes research on the situations of indigenous women and gender based policy analysis. Tebtebba also has a resource center – a specialized library containing resources on indigenous peoples’ rights and human rights, education, environment, economic and social development, culture, health, gender. The collection includes books, pamphlets, periodicals, conference papers and documents.
The centre has a variety of publications including a bi-annual journal, a quarterly magazine, policy and briefing papers. Briefing papers can be downloaded from the website. The website also contains information about the Indigenous Peoples’ Global Research and Education Network (IPGREN) – a network of organizations, individuals and institutions who are committed to research on issues and concerns affecting indigenous peoples.
