The Institute of Health Systems (IHS) is a public health research and training institute that undertakes research on health systems, health policy, health services management, health economics and medical sociology.
The activities of the Institute can be divided into:
- research and consultancy
- training, mainly in health systems operation and health systems research methodology
- health informatics
- public services, including organising public lectures and seminars
The research areas of the Institute include:
- National burden of disease
- health system performance assessment (HSP)
- health sector reform
- healthcare quality assurance (HQA)
The Institute is also actively involves in building the health informatics infrastructure (HII) in India. Major HII activities of the Institute are: human resource development for health informatics; health informatic standards; and health care identification systems.
