Part of the USA Department of Energy. Compiles data on production and consumption of energy sources (including petroleum products). Includes some data on environmental effects of use. Its most detailed data relates to the USA, but it produces series on other countries. WWW site has information on EIA, full-text of some of its publications, statistical series and downloadable software products (mostly modelling) and extensive links to other energy related sites (particularly useful for statistical data).

Information products include:

(a) Country analysis briefs: profiles of major world energy producers, consumers and transport centres” annually: these are available in full text from their WWW. These country profiles include short statistics on the energy sector, petroleum industry and environmental effects, plus a narrative section providing further information and discussion. Some profiles include detailed maps of pipeline, oil fields, port locations, etc.

(b) International Energy Outlook [former print version called International energy Annual?]: overview of key international energy trends for production, consumption, imports and exports of primary energy commodities and forecasts for over 200 countries. Also population and GDP data, prices for crude oil and petroleum products in selected countries. Renewable energy sources also included: hydroelectric power, geothermal, solar, wind, alcohol. The WWW version includes text of printed version, plus database of statistics on 200 plus countries (also available on disc).

(c) EIA Energy Infodisc: CDROM compilation of EIA energy databases, full-text publications, directories and software applications. Published quarterly. Information on disc available on WWW site
