The Belize Audubon Society (BAS) is a non-governmental membership organization working on the sustainable management of natural resources, particularly through the education of young people. BAS works on managing nine of Belize’s protected areas. It conducts education programs that focus on protecting the integrity of these areas by analyzing and influencing policy. It also encourages the involvement of local communities in the management of the protected areas.

BAS offers training in basic skills in the following areas:

  • literacy
  • leadership
  • advocacy education for sustainability and planning
  • performance management
  • sustainable resource management and business planning

BAS conducts research programs designed to provide pertinent information to its management team and to build institutional capacity. It also manages the Belize Biodiversity Information System (BBIS, http://fwie.fw.vt.edu/wcs/ ) that host data on a large variety of species found in Belize.

The Belize Audubon Society publishes a quarterly newsletter. Other activities include the organization of student’s visits to parks and educational centers. More information about reservations and membership conditions are available on the English website.
