AAWORD is a pan-African non-governmental organisation based in Dakar, Senegal. AAWORD undertakes and supports research, training and advocacy with the intention of promoting the economic, political and social rights of African women. Areas of focus include:

  • gender and transformation of economic and social policies in Africa
  • governance, democratisation and women’s political empowerment
  • violence against women
  • conflict transformation and peace building

In addition to its research activities, AAWORD provides training to NGOs and international institutions. The association conducts workshops and seminars on gender and economic literature, new communication and information technologies, democratisation and globalisation.

AAWORD has a documentation and information centre consisting of documents produced by the association and general literature concerned with gender, women and development, health, politics and the economy. The fund is made up of monographs (books, reports, works of reference), periodicals (periodical articles, files with various themes, newspaper clippings), conference documents and papers. Some of the publications can be downloaded from the website. The website in French and English provides information about the association’s ongoing research programmes, training and youth programme.

By
