Its main focus is on improving the performance of teachers and education managers through professional development. It offers a series of professional development programmes for educators, including short courses and a Master of Education course, and plans to offer a PhD programme for educational researchers. It also aims to:

  • tailor programmes to the realities and constraints of developing countries’ contexts, using a field-based approach to professional development
  • focus on quality improvement in classrooms and schools, mainly through teacher development, improved school management, appropriate curriculum and assessment
  • raise awareness among teacher educators, teachers and students about their physical, social, economic and cultural environment, as well as their role in contributing to its improvement.
