The Psychosocial Working Group was established in 2000 with the support of grants from the Andrew Mellon Foundation as a collaboration between academic institutions and humanitarian agencies to further the development of knowledge and best practice in the field of psychosocial interventions in complex emergencies.
Working in partnership, members seek to develop the field of psychosocial intervention in order to improve humanitarian assistance programmes to war-affected populations. Partners are committed to research, practice development and wider networking with humanitarian agencies and academic institutions. Through extensive dialogue between organisations and practitioners representing a range of approaches and orientations to psychosocial intervention the group has worked to develop a series of papers (PWG Produced Papers), available online, addressing different issues in psychosocial work.
