The Development Observatory (OdD), at the University of Costa Rica, is dedicated to the field of information for decision-makers. Founded in 1997 through an agreement between the University of Costa Rica and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Observatory compiles and disseminates statistical information and analyses on economic, social, political and environmental issues. Many products are available in electronic format (Web and CD-ROM).
The OdD’s main focus is on providing decision-makers (politicians, NGO leaders, specialists and citizens) with relevant, timely and validated information, bearing in mind that development in Costa Rica and the region must be driven by a respect for life and living beings, ecological integrity, justice, democracy and peace. Key areas of interest are environmental protection, sustainable development, quality of life issues and technology for development.
