The Belarusian State University (BSU) (the largest educational, scientific and cultural center in the Republic of Belarus) was founded on October 30, 1921. The BSU contributes to the development of the Academy of Sciences of BSSR, the Republic’s State Library and number of research institutions as well as to the programs of strengthening Belarusian statehood and the development of economic and social reforms in the republic.

The main priority of the University’s activity is training of highly qualified specialists. Scientific schools founded under the supervision of numerous professors of the University are widely known not only in the republic but also abroad.

14 departments of BSU offer Master and Doctoral programs in 34 scientific areas including social disciplines such as:

  • Law
  • Philosophy
  • Economics
  • Sociology
  • History.

The Research Sector includes scientific centers and 52 research laboratories. Adjoined to the BSU are the Republican Institute High School, three institutes of social and political research, and a high-energy physics laboratory.
