The Basic Support for Institutionalizing Child Survival (BASICS II), is USAID’s flagship project in the quest to improve child health. It builds on lessons of its predecessor, BASICS I (1994-1999). The global project is charged with achieving the greatest possible country-level impact on major threats to child health and providing technical leadership in policies and programming.
BASICS II focuses on four areas that promise the greatest reduction in mortality:
- effective and sustainable child immunisation
- perinatal and neo-natal health
- nutrition and growth promotion
- community integrated management of childhood illness
Its website provides access to a number of resources, including:
- Technical area: background information and BASICS II’s approach to each of the focus areas of the organisation
- Programs: links to all BASICS II and BASICS I’s programmes by country, with access to background information and programme documents
