In this session organisde by Corporate Accountability and its allies from the Indigenous Mapuche Confederation from Neuquén, Argentina, we explore the following questions:
How can we help build a powerful movement in Latin America? How can we maximize the tools communities are already using in their resistance? Why is in-person organizing amongst movement leaders a critical strategy to challenging corporate power? And how can we effectively connect the dots between organizing in Latin America to the global struggle challenging the rise of corporate power?
Together we watched a short video from the Latin American campaign “Que Paguen” that presents 10 examples of extractivism in 9 countries in Latin America and what communities are doing to resist. A movement leader from the Indigenous Mapuche Confederation shared how corporate capture in Argentina is impacting territories, indigenous rights and the environment, as well as the need to build a movement supported by progressive philanthropy with a clear vision linking local and global social justice.
Speakers:
- Melissa Cabrapan (Indigenous Mapuche Confederation of Neuquén)
- Nathalie Rengifo (Corporate Accountability)
