Practical Action, formerly known as the Intermediate Technology Development Group (ITDG), is an NGO specialising in appropriate technology transfer. It aims to “enable poor people in the South to develop skills and technologies which give them more control over their lives and which contribute to the sustainable development of their communities”. Practical Action operates research, project management and publishing programmes. It also runs Intermediate Technology Consultants (ITC), providing technical and business support for small-scale enterprises in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
IT Publications publishes and distributes IT’s own publications and operates a bookshop in London (with a mail order service), with a wide range of other technology/development publications. The Practical Action website has information on the organisation, a publications list, and news releases.
