The Latin American Platform on Climate (LAPC) was formed in 2009 by 17 civil society organisations from nine countries of the region (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay). The platform aims to generate answers, from and for Latin America, to global climate change challenges. It contributes to ensuring that addressing climate change and its effects will be a top priority for political, environmental, social and economic decision-making at multiple levels in both the public and private sector.
The LAPC is pursuing the following Strategic Action Guidelines.
- Promote and facilitate dialogue, coordinating Latin American and global initiatives to build social capital and catalyse consensus based, informed responses to climate change in Latin America.
- Generate and gather knowledge to generate public policies on climate change at the local, national, regional and global level.
- Advocate for the generation and implementation of public policies on climate change, installing Latin American proposals at the local, national, and international level.
- Generate innovative collective proposals from Latin America with regional relevance.
- Spread messages before the public eye on possible transformations and impacts.
