Racial Justice in the Americas Dialogue
The Racial Justice Dialogues is a space built by the initiative of the Americas Steering Group and EDGE members Borealis Foundation that focuses on understanding how systemic racism shows up in different regions in the Americas and what are the lessons that people can learn from activists movements from different parts of this specific region. During these conversations, we aim to cover a variety of topics, including the history of racial justice movements in the Americas, the intersection of structural racism with other systems of inequality, solidarity and connections among the Americas, funding the resistance internationally, and how to do racial justice work better.
In addition to providing a space for learning and networking, the working space will also focus on developing concrete strategies for increasing funding for racial justice work in the Americas. The goal is to support funders to make concrete changes within their work, by increasing funding towards racial justice and overcoming the real or presumed barrier they are experiencing within their organizations.
The dialogue is open to EDGE members based in the Americas who are interested in racial justice work.
The Racial Justice Dialogues will offer a space for EDGE members to:
- Learn from other funders who are working on racial justice
- Build relationships and solidarity with other funders working in the region
- Develop strategies for increasing funding for racial justice
- Make concrete changes within their work
Objectives of the Dialogue
- Build a sense of togetherness for longevity in these relationships and build this work in relationship
- Connect the space in the Americas in understanding systemic racism
- Explore how structural racism intersects with other systems of inequality, specifically in the Americas context.
- Learn about the work being done and how we can do it better.
- Deepen our understanding of the history of interconnected movements and how we can sustain this momentum now.
- Reflect on the commitment philanthropy and governments proclaimed in 2020 and the concrete outputs (of lack thereof) of these promises
- Identify ways in which we are already seeing solidarity and connections among the Americas
- Inspire resistance globally by discussing how we can fund the resistance internationally
