The Knowledge Programme on HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections is a five-year research project based at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and the Medical Research Council, Glasgow, with collaborators in Africa and Asia, and funded by the Department for International Development (DFID). The Programme is working to find the most (cost) effective interventions in disadvantaged populations for the prevention of HIV/STIs and the care of people with HIV/AIDS and STIs.

The programme’s five main areas of research are:

  • determinants of sexual behaviour
  • biomedical risk factors
  • use and effectiveness of services
  • interventions for diagnosis, prevention and care
  • prevention and care policies

WWW site provides a sexually transmitted infection (STI) prevention and care newsletter, highlights research findings, lists publications – a number of which are available online – and provides related links.
