Economic Justice Initiative

The Economic Justice Initiative is a continuation of the Economic Justice Dialogues held from 2022-2023 and facilitated by Tatiana Garavito and Barbara Van Paassen. The dialogues offered a space where feminist leaders from academia and civil society delved into a systems analysis, and power mapping, shared ideas, and worked towards a joint vision of feminist economies.
For 2024-2025, the dialogues will become an initiative which invites EDGE members working on economic justice to join in conversation with movement representatives.
The main goals of the EJI for 2024-2025 are as follows:
- Deepening funders’ understanding of economic justice priorities and philanthropy’s role in supporting the movement.
- Facilitating collaboration between funders and movements to shift power dynamics with thoughtfulness and intention.
- Utilizing economic justice as a lens to comprehend systemic crises and clarify philanthropy’s role in supporting systemic change alternatives.
- Sharing learnings with the broader philanthropic field about the collective vision for intersectional economic systems, with consent and leadership from the group.
Those interested in joining can email Hana. Interested funders will be part of a brief screening process to ensure alignment with criteria established by dialogue participants.
We believe that offering a space such as this one will allow for better and more long-term resourcing of reimagining economies and will also bring a better intersectional understanding and analysis to donors working on economic and gender issues.
Initiative Co-Chairs
The Economic Justice Initiative agendas and focuses for 2024 will be shaped by the following co-chairs composed of members and movement partners. One of EDGE’s core focus is working with movements. That is why, initiatives have two co-chairs, one representing funders and another representing movements, to help guide the agenda-setting, serve as a sounding board for the EDGE secretariat and co-facilitate co-creation meetings. Co-chairs also host in-person gatherings and delegations to key meetings and conferences. They also take a lead in bi-annual intersectionality meetings aimed at ensuring all thematic programs at EDGE are in conversation to build collective systemic change narratives.
2024 co-chairs will be announced soon.
